Neo Sports acquires rights to air live telecast of BPL 3

Sports broadcaster Neo Sports has acquired the broadcasting rights of the Bangladesh Premier League. Neo Sports Broadcast Network, which owns and operates Neo Sports and Neo Prime channels will telecast 34 matches of BPL live. The rights for the Indian subcontinent were earlier with Star Sports.

Elite Media Works official Nitin Anand stated, “We’re delighted to team up with Neo Sports this year as our media partners in India. Top class T20 cricket in a carnival-like atmosphere has proved a hit with fans everywhere and we expect the 2015 tournament to be bigger and better than before.”

Neo sports have also stated that it will consider acquiring the rights of further seasons as well.

“It has been a good tournament over the past two season in terms of quality of cricket and players’ participation and hence we acquired its telecast rights,” says  Neo Sports EVP programming Mautik Tolia.

Tolia also asserted that at present the aim is to promote the tournament and target the viewers.

“We will use our network as well as other broadcasters to promote the tourney. Also what we have witnessed so far the league has been hugely popular among youth and we will be targeting them through digital media too” Tolia said.

The first edition of the tournament was held in 2012 and continued in 2013. However, the third edition was not held in 2014 due to financial complexity.

The third edition of Bangladesh Premier League begins on 22nd November at Dhaka. The opening clash is between Rangpur Riders and Chittagong Vikings on 22 November at 1.30 pm. The matches will be played at National Cricket Stadium and Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

The tournament features six team franchise tournament namely Dhaka Dynamites, Chittagong Vikings, Barisal Bulls, Rangpur Riders, Sylhet Superstars and Comilla Victorians.

BPL promises to be an exciting tournament and features T20 stars like Chris Gayle, Kumar Sangakkara, Shahid Afridi, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Umar Akmal, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Ravi Bopara, Chris Jordan, Darren Stevens and Joshua Cobb.
