Netherlands all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate admits international career is over

Netherlands veteran all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate feels that his international career might have come to an end. Tendo, as he is commonly known, was an integral part of the Netherlands’ success in international tournaments. Currently, the all-rounder acts as a freelance T20 cricketer and has also had five-year a stint in the IPL with two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders. Ten Doeschate remains one of the few players who commands respect and admiration even from the rival fans.

Ryan ten Doeschate fizzled out of the Netherlands setup in 2011 but made a sudden and impressive comeback in 2017. However, the 38-year old felt that he had walked away from international cricket at the right time and is pleased with his current commitments.

Speaking in a press conference after a Afghanistan Premier League game, ten Doeschate said, “My time is certainly up for international cricket, and I had some good times with the Dutch team. I haven’t played very much lately. My role now is to chip in wherever, as much as I can for the team.”

“For the experience I have and the conditions I have played in, I am just trying to chip in as a senior player. I am lucky I am in good condition at 38, and probably a bit more experienced than I used to be when I had a bit more pace and energy,” he added.

The Netherlands cricketer was the pillar of English county side Essex, especially in 2017 when they won their first County Championship title in 25 years. Ryan also earned the Associate Player of the Year award in 2008, 2010 and 2011. He played 33 ODIs and 10 T20Is for his nation in which went on to rack up 1541 and 252 runs respectively. He also boasts of five international tons and 10 half-centuries.
