“Never asked for Rs 16 crore” from Delhi Daredevils says Yuvraj Singh: Yuvraj Singh, the most expensive player ever in IPL history, on Friday said that he “never asked for Rs 16 crore” from his franchise the Delhi Daredevils.
Yuvraj, who was bought by Delhi Daredevils at a whooping 16 crore rupees in the IPL 2015 auctions said, “I never asked for it (Rs 16 crore). It was not in my hands. I was just like any other player in the auction. I would have played in the IPL irrespective of the amount as my priority has always been playing cricket.”
“I am enjoying my cricket at the moment and I am not thinking too far ahead. Hopefully, as a team we want to get Daredevils back on track. The win in the last match was needed to boost the morale after 11 defeats. In the last game, I got a lot of over’s to plan my innings as I needed some time out there in the middle,” said the left-hander.
Speaking about the DD coach Gary Kirsten, he said, “I have the same relationship with him as it was when he was with the Indian team (when they won the 2011 World Cup). I have a great understanding with him. He gets the best out of me. He always pushes me hard and wants me to win games. That gives me lot of confidence.
“When Gary was the coach of the Indian team, he had to manage just 15 players. But in the IPL, he has to take care of 25 players and that makes things a bit different. He is a terrific coach and is an asset to the team,” Yuvraj said.
Yuvraj seemed delighted with his half-century in the previous game he said, “In T20s, you don’t have much time to settle in. In the last game I had a lot of over’s to plan my innings. I needed some time in the middle so I’m glad to have got some runs for the team. It was important for us to get those two points.
“It’s a big relief in terms of the team winning rather than me getting runs. We had been at the losing end for 11 games or so and hence it was important to get a win. We had been playing well.”
Yuvraj last played for India in the World T20 in Bangladesh, 2014. When asked about his chances of an India return, Yuvraj said, “I’m not thinking that far. I’m enjoying my cricket. I had a decent domestic season. I’m looking forward to this IPL. As a team, you want to get Delhi back on track, where they belonged in the first four years. That’s our goal at the moment.”
Daredevils next play Sunrisers Hyderabad at Vishakapatnam on Saturday and Yuvraj has predicted the spinners to have a field day there.
