Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed has cleared that the decision to name him the captain of the national team completely rested with the cricket board and he never demanded the position. The team under his leadership has done extremely well so far as they triumphed in ICC Champions Trophy in England before winning a T20I series in New Zealand in January. However, the wicketkeeper batsman was also hopeful of continuing well at the helm for the Men in Green.

Sarfraz is currently leading Quetta Gladiators in the ongoing third season of Pakistan Super League (PSL). The team is currently on the top of the points table after winning their last game against the defending champions Peshawar Zalmi. He played a crucial role in the victory as Quetta chased down 158. Sarfraz remained unbeaten on 45 off just 31 deliveries with 6 fours during his stay in the middle.

My duty is to play cricket

Sarfraz Ahmed, while speaking to the media after the match, commented about his Pakistan captaincy and believed that it is going fine for him. “It is up to the Pakistan Cricket Board to decide who should and who should not remain captain. My duty is to play cricket, which I am doing. My captaincy is going fine and I am hopeful that it will continue to remain so,” he said.

Sarfraz also hoped that the veteran Kevin Pietersen agrees to travel to Pakistan as there are more chances that his team will qualify for the playoffs. The former England crickter has already denied clearly about going to the country to feature in the knockouts. “He will defiantly realize that last year we suffered loss because of the absence of four international players. But we have replacements in line as well,” he added.

Quetta have been in good form in the last couple of seasons of the tournament as well with them finishing as th runners-up. This time around they would love to go one step better and lay their hands on the trophy.
