A new cricket stadium to be built near Padma River in Bangladesh

It is the desire of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that an international stadium should be built close to the river.

The government of Bangladesh is planning to construct a new international cricket stadium near the famous Padma River. As the fever of the game is increasing by the day, the need for more facilities and lavishing international stadiums is also increasing. As per the recent plans, a team of experts from the National Sports Council (NSC) and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) visited the site Dhutrabari near Paturia Ferry Ghat on July 18.

Dhutrabari is located in the Shibalaya upazila of Manikganj district, and it is very near to the river Padma. Bangladeshi fans are considered among the most passionate followers of the sport and backed the national team all these years while they were too naive to beat the bigger teams. The support has grown to another level ever since they have started to beat the top teams across the formats of the game.

Bangladeshi PM wants a new stadium

Bangladesh’s first Test skipper and right-handed batsman Naimur Rahman is also a lawmaker from the district Manikganj. He explained that it is the desire of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that an international stadium should be built close to the river.

“For this reason, the area adjacent to the Paturia Ferry Ghat has been primarily selected. Apart from the Ferry Ghat, there is beautiful nature around it. If the stadium is built here, the tourism industry will also be developed in this region,” said Naimur Rahman.

NSC secretary Ashok Kumar Biswas said, “We need 25 acres of land for constructing an international standard cricket stadium. The required land is there and the acquisition will be started if the representatives of BUET give a positive report. The construction of the stadium will start within the tenure of the present government.”
