Acting BCCI President CK Khanna revealed that the head coach of the Indian cricket team will be finalised before the players head towards Sri Lanka for a lengthy tour. ANI News took to their Twitter handle to confirm Khanna’s statement.

The team is currently in the Caribbean to fight it out in a five-match ODI series against the West Indies. The team flew to the West Indies without head coach Anil Kumble who handed over his resignation hours after the team left London.

CK Khanna also confirmed that the new head coach who will take over from Kumble will be in charge of the national team at least till the 2019 World Cup. The next two years will be tough for the Indian team as we can expect a lot of hunting and grooming of the talents before the mega ICC event.

Virender Sehwag, Dodda Ganesh, Tom Moody are some of the contenders for the role, with the board yet to decide the final choice. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprised of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman have already received applications from the above-mentioned personalities and are working on the process.

Where did it start?

Complications between skipper Virat Kohli and previous coach Anil Kumble led to the step taken by the latter. Problems between the two came into the limelight during the recently concluded Champions Trophy which resulted in the deterioration of their relationship. According to reports Kohli was not happy with the legendary leg spinner’s management skills and demanded a new head coach.

Whoever takes on the responsibility will have massive pressure on his shoulders because Kumble has been flawless in his tenure. Team India have tasted gigantic success under the retired cricketer. The new head coach will also have a few important decision to make regarding the team selection where he will have to sort out the future of some senior players.
