New Zealand declares test squad for the tour of England; Guptil summoned back following World Cup success: New Zealand declares test, ODI and T20 squad for the tour of England to be played next month. ODI opener Martin Guptil has been rewarded with a test recall after almost 2 years; he last played a test match in 2013. Another new addition is fast bowler Matt Henry who had a couple of impressive outings at the World Cup 2015 semi-finals and finals.
Henry makes it to the test team as Adam Milne and James Neesham are both injured and were not available for selection.
New Zealand coach Mike Hesson who announced the squad said, “It’s another step up for Matt but we’ve been impressed by the maturity and skill-set he’s already shown in the ODI format,”
He also said that though Guptil has been included in the squad a call on the final XI will be taken after observing the performances in the practice games. “Martin’s a classically-styled batsman and there’s really no reason why he can’t be as influential in the longer game as he is in the short. “This is a stable, established Test side but there will be opportunities for contenders,” he said.
