The New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announced the 13-member squad for the ODI series against Bangladesh. The kiwis will be hosting the Bangladeshi team for a long home season. Bangladesh will play 3 ODIs, 3 T20Is and 2 Tests on the tour. The tour kicks off with the first ODI at Christchurch on December 25. The major highlight of the squad announced by New Zealand is the return of domestic veteran Neil Broom.

The chief selector Gavin Larsen mentioned that Neil Broom and Luke Ronchi are value addition to the team. “With 12 years of domestic cricket under his belt and having previously spent time in the BLACKCAPS squad, Neil brings a lot of experience to the group,” quoted Larsen. With Ross Taylor out due to an injury, Neil Broom will take his place at the number four position.

“Neil was the top run-scorer in the Ford Trophy competition last year, with an average of 84.66. He has an impressive strike-rate and obviously fills the number four role with Ross out injured,” added Larsen. Larsen also had a word of praise for Luke Ronchi. He called him as the most experienced and best wicket keeper in New Zealand for ODIs at the moment.

“It’s been pleasing to see Luke scoring runs for Wellington again and he returns as one one of the most experienced members of the squad. At this stage we see him as the best ODI gloveman in the country and the leadership he brings to the group is also immensely valuable,” conceded the New Zealand Chief Selector.

Kane Williamson will lead the side. Pacer Lockie Ferguson gets another chance at the international level and so does Colin de Grandhomme. New Zealand opted to go with a full strength side for the ODI series. Their last ODI assignment was against Australia and India where they lost 3-0 and 3-2 respectively.

New Zealand Squad for ODIs:

Kane Williamson (c), Trent Boult, Neil Broom, Lockie Ferguson, Colin de Grandhomme, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Colin Munro, James Neesham, Luke Ronchi, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee
