After a closely fought ODI series, the New Zealand and England teams will face in a 2-match Test series that starts with the first ever D/N Test match on the New Zealand soil. The Kiwis have a decent record at home in the recent past but were defeated by Australia and South Africa in successive years. England, on the other hand, have not won any of their last ten away Test matches and ended up losing eight of them.
All the stats and numbers to be looked out ahead of the Test series between England and New Zealand:
0 – Number of Test series that New Zealand won against England in the 21st century. Both the teams faced in seven Test series since 2001 with England winning four and other three ending in a draw. New Zealand’s last Test series win against England came in 1999.
Since 2001, the Kiwis won only three and lost 11 of the 19 Test matches they played against England. The hosts failed to register even one win in their last five Tests against England.
1 – Number of Test series New Zealand won at home against England. They featured in the 18 Test series/one-off games against England at home but only in the 1984 Test series. England won ten Test series in New Zealand while seven other ended in a draw.
17.6 – Joe Root’s batting average in Test cricket in New Zealand; his lowest in any country. He scored 88 runs in five innings during his previous tour in 2013. Root scored 514 runs in 13 innings against New Zealand at an average of 39.53; his lowest against any opponent. (Min: 5 inns)
37.48 – Tim Southee’s bowling average against England in Test cricket. He took 31 wickets in nine Test against them with two 5-wicket hauls. Southee has a worse average against South Africa (61.87) and Australia (49.24) than the 37.48 against England.
95 – Number of wickets Ben Stokes bagged in Test cricket so far. He needs five more wickets to complete 100 wickets in this format and become only the 8th England player with the double of 2000 Test runs and 100 Test wickets.
103 – James Anderson and Stuart Broad featured in each of the last 12 Test matches between England and New Zealand. They collectively bagged 103 wickets in those 12 Tests at an average of 27.52 and an S/R of 48.3 with three 5-wicket hauls apiece.
399 – Number of wickets for Stuart Broad in Test cricket. He needs one more wicket to become the 2nd England player after James Anderson to take 400 Test wickets.
Broad aggregated 2956 runs in the Test format and needs 44 more runs to complete 3000 Test runs. Broad will become the 9th player with the double of 3000+ Test runs and 300+ Test wickets when he completes the milestone.
