After defeating New Zealand 2-1in the ODI series, the buoyant Indians now switch their focus to T20 cricket. The hosts were outplayed in the 1st two ODIs and by the time they sorted the Indian spinners, the series was lost. For India, Smriti Mandhana stole the show with a stellar batting display. As for the hosts, they’ll have to regroup quickly and ensure that they’re on the offensive from the outset to ensure that India does not dominate again.

New Zealand will be all too aware of what India is capable of in this format. The last time these two teams squared off ahead of the World T20, Harmanpreet Kaur had a ball while posting a ton.

Team News –

New Zealand

Amy Satterthwaite faced heat after surrendering in the 1st two ODIs. However, she will take heart from the victory in the final ODI.

The hosts will continue to bank heavily on Amelia Kerr, Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine. Leigh Kasperek had a fairly good ODI series and she will look to take her form into the T20I series as well.

Squad:

Suzie Bates, Sophie Devine, Amy Satterthwaite (c), Bernadine Bezuidenhout (wk), Katie Martin, Hayley Jensen, Amelia Kerr, Hannah Rowe, Leigh Kasperek, Lea Tahuhu, Frances Mackay, Rosemary Mair, Caitlin Gurrey.

Likely Playing XI – New Zealand

Bates, Martin, Devine, Satterthwaite (c), Kerr, Mair, Kasperek, Bezuidenhout (wk), Jensen, Rowe and Tahuhu.

India

Harmanpreet Kaur didn’t get too many opportunities in the ODI series with the sheer domination of Smiriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues at the top of the order. She will now look to score with every given opportunity. Note that while Mithali Raj led the team in the ODI series, Kaur takes over in the T20 series.

The Indian spinners will play a vital role again in curbing New Zealand. Shikha Pandey meanwhile, will play the role of a fast-bowling all-rounder.

With an eye on the future, India might opt to play Tanya Bhatia up the order and this means that Mithali Raj may not get an opportunity in this line-up.

Squad:

Smriti Mandhana, Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Taniya Bhatia (wk), Anuja Patil, Jemimah Rodrigues, Poonam Yadav, Radha Yadav, Arundhati Reddy, Ekta Bisht, Dayalan Hemalata, Shikha Pandey, Deepti Sharma, Mansi Joshi, Priya Punia.

Likely Playing XI – India

Mandhana, Bhatia (wk), Rodrigues, Kaur (c), Patil, Hemalatha, Pandey, Sharma, Radha Yadav, Poonam Yadav, Reddy.

Hot Picks

Katey Martin: the New Zealand wicket-keeper has been in good touch over the past year and you could pick her as the wicket-keeper of your choice

Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues: this Indian opening-pair has been in top form on tour. This would be a fairly easy decision to pick the duo in your Fantain Fantasy XI

Suzie Bates: note that Bates is ranked number one in T20 cricket and for this reason alone, you ought to pick her in your team

Amelia Kerr: This young leg-spinner is a fine young prospect for the hosts. What’s more, her batting abilities make her a great pick for any Fantasy XI.
