The comprehensive win in the series opener will have handed the Indian women a great deal of confidence. Another strong performance will ensure that they pocket this three-match series.

The Indian spinners continue to maintain their vice-like grip on the opposition. And when a stellar bowling performance is back by an outstanding opening partnership – like the one we witnessed in the 1st ODI – this Indian outfit becomes unstoppable.

For New Zealand, the 2nd ODI is a chance to get one right back. They are bound to have suffered owing to the drubbing they were handed in the first outing.

Venue:

  • The Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui
  • This match will be played on the same pitch that hosted two ODIs between Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli’s men. Therefore, wear and tear could lead to the track offering more turn than usual. This would, of course, play right into the hands of the Indian women
  • Also, note that the most recent Women’s ODIs played here have seen scores in excess of 250 being chased. So expect big scores here again
  • Average 1st innings score – 235 (Last five women’s ODIs)
  • Run-chase record: The team chasing has won the last 4 out of 5 ODIs.

Likely Playing XI – New Zealand Women

Hot Picks

  • Smriti Mandhana: The left-hander displayed fine form in the 1st When she’s at the crease and stroking away at ease, she’s one of the best batters in world cricket
  • Jemimah Rodrigues: This precocious youngster is the future of Indian cricket. It was great to see her play the way she did in the 1st Have her in your XI for a solid batter
  • Poonam Yadav: She bowls with a delightful flight and more often than not, compels the batter to make a mistake. She’s bound to pick up wickets and in turn score Fantain Fantasy points for you
  • Sophie Devine: This well-built all-rounder is key to New Zealand’s plans. Should she fire, India will be in a spot of bother
  • Suzie Bates: This experienced all-rounder comes to this series on the back of strong performances in the WBBL in Australia. She got to 36 in the 1st ODI before being dismissed. Keep an eye out for her as she’s always been a strong performer for NZ Women
