Bangladesh has recently beaten Sri Lanka by a couple of wickets at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Subsequently, they booked a berth in the final against India at the same venue. However, more than their cricketing achievements, the players have hogged the headlines courtesy their behavioural issues on the field.

Shakib Al Hasan and Nurul Hasan were involved in some ugly brawl with the Sri Lankan players. They breached the ICC Code of Conduct and were slapped with a fine of 25 percent of their match fees along with one demerit point each. They were severely bashed by the audience and their actions were considered to be against the Spirit of the Game.

Unprofessional approach – Hasan

Recently, Nazmul Hasan Papon, the chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) also criticized the players for the approach they displayed during the closing stages of the game. “The players’ approach during the final over of the match (against Sri Lanka in the Nidahas Trophy) was not professional at all and they did not behave properly,” Hasan was quoted as saying by mid-day.

Meanwhile, Thilanga Sumanthipala, the President of Sri Lanka cricket also opined on the incident which panned out during the nail-biter. “It was very disappointing to see the negative reactions of the Bangladeshi players. The image and reputation of the game could suffer if ICC takes a very lenient view for such bad behavior.” Sumanthipala added.

Bangladesh has had an impressive run in the ongoing Nidahas T20 triangular series. Shakib’s men lost a couple of games against India, however, notched two stupendous victories against Sri Lanka, which also included their highest run-chase in T20 Internationals. Nevertheless, they will have to play out of their skins if they are to topple the might of the Indians in the Final today.
