No mention of Champions Trophy pull out in BCCI SGM agenda

However, a top official noted that things are more about sending a letter to the ICC and asking them to follow Members’ Participation Agreement (MPA) signed in 2014.

In a surprising turn of events, the much awaited BCCI SGM scheduled to take place on May 7 might not have any discussion on the Champions Trophy issue. In the last couple of weeks, there have been consistent discussions about the SGM that the Indian board has called for. The dark cloud that hovers over the participation of the Indian team in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 is expected to be sorted at the meeting.

However, as per the recent reports in the Indian Express, the agenda of the meeting sees no mention of the Champions Trophy pull out issue. Instead, the meeting will see the top BCCI officials communicate and discuss their agenda of sending the ‘course correction’ ideas to the ICC. The state associations are keen on getting things sorted in the meeting.

“Around 23 BCCI units have sent their written approval that we need to send a letter to the ICC seeking course correction. But as the COA has communicated that they don’t want any legal notice to be sent to ICC, we are not sending one. But the letter would urge ICC to take corrective measure. Now the matter will be placed before general body,” an official from the Indian board quote to PTI.

He further added that the meeting will try to draw conclusions on the various issues that have been earlier held in the ICC meetings this year. Also, they will try to come up with their take on the respective issues.

“To apprise the General Body of the BCCI on the discussions held with representatives of other Member Boards of the ICC and on the decisions taken at the ICC Meetings held on the 24th of April, 2017 and the 26th of April, 2017 and to take all necessary decisions pursuant thereto,” he added.

Lastly, the official noted that it is tough to predict what things would happen at the meeting. However, he noted that things are more about sending a letter to the ICC and asking them to follow Members’ Participation Agreement (MPA) signed in 2014. About the pull out, there is no direct word as such.

“One can’t predict what will happen at the SGM but what’s the harm if we send a normal letter. Pull out is an extreme step and that’s not something we are thinking about right now,” he quoted.
