The second Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka kicked off at the National Stadium in Karachi, and on expected terms, Fawad Alam was once again overlooked, with the Misbah-Ul-Haq-led team management opting to continue with Haris Sohail in the playing 11. Alam, who made his Test debut ten years ago, was finally named in the squad for Pakistan’s homecoming series against Sri Lanka after years of perseverance, grit, patience, disappointments and of-course lots of runs.

The southpaw has been in scintillating form in the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, where he has already racked up 781 runs in 10 matches for Sindh with the help of four centuries and two half-centuries, at an average of 71. Apart from this, Fawad Alam averages 56.57 and is 12th on the list of batsmen with the best average [minimum 10,000 runs] in First-class cricket. With these sorts of numbers and the fact that Pakistan’s batting is struggling big time, there is no explanation as to why Alam keeps getting overlooked.

Former Pakistan fast bowling spearhead, Shoaib Akhtar does not have any reasoning or explanation behind the continuous snub of Fawad Alam. The former tearaway fast bowler took to Twitter to vent his anger about the snub of Fawad Alam where he wrote, “No possible justification of not playing @iamfawadalam25  in both the Test matches. He is in form. Playing domestic season so well. Unfair.”

Misbah-ul-Haq and Azhar Ali had previously given their explanations behind continuously ignoring Fawad Alam

Earlier, both Misbah Ul Haq and captain Azhar Ali had asserted they were looking to try various different combinations and will consider Alam only when they feel he’s suited to the conditions.

“When you bring any player in the squad, you do it to strengthen the squad. Whenever we feel that we need Fawad, we will play him. It’s not necessary that it will be in this Test or the first Test but we will look at how we can make our best combination.”Misbah was quoted as saying by PakPassion

Meanwhile, Azhar Ali had said, “We will utilize his capabilities whenever we feel like using it, at the moment we are continuing with our team but Fawad is certainly in our plans and that’s why he’s in the squad,” Coming back to the Test match, Pakistan endured another tough batting experience when they were bowled out for 191 in their first innings.
