India’s ace seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s form has been in talks ahead of the T20 World Cup 2021. He experienced a lean patch in this edition of the Indian Premier League wherein his economy rate was also a tad bit worrying. Indian skipper Virat Kohli has however come forward to back the senior pacer ahead of the start of the mega event.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar had a forgettable season in this year’s IPL. He wasn’t able to fetch in impactful performances in the second half of the tournament. In the UAE leg, he managed to scalp just three wickets in six games at an average of 54 and an economy rate of 7.04.

However, in the game against RCB, he defended 12 runs in the last over against AB de Villiers to sail SRH to victory. Kohli touched upon this example and asserted that the management is not at all concerned about the pacer’s form. He also added that Bhuvneshwar’s experience helps in the crunch moments. The Indian skipper heaped praises on the bowler and further stated that his accuracy and experience are priceless for team India.

I think Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s experience and accuracy has always been priceless for the team: Virat Kohli

“No, not at all [concerned]. His economy rates still continue to be top-notch, something that he’s always been known for and his experience comes to the fore under pressure. If you see the game that we [Royal Challengers] played against Sunrisers, the last game, where he had to close out the game against AB de Villiers, probably one of the two or three most destructive lower-order finishers in the T20 game.

“It explained or spoke volumes of what experience Bhuvi brings on the field, whenever we play – just the understanding of hitting the areas, according to the dimensions of the field, and what balls to bowl at what time. Even the fact that he bowls lengths so well and so consistently, which is not an easy thing to get away with in T20 cricket, especially with the new ball. It’s quite an underrated thing and I think his experience and accuracy have always been priceless for the team,” Kohli said at the ICC captain’s press conference.
