After having registered an emphatic win by an innings and 276 runs in the first Test at Christchurch last week, an upbeat New Zealand are hosting South Africa in the second and final Test match at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. It was a great chance for them not only to seal the series but also to earn some precious ICC World Test Championship points.
But the visitors put on a stunning show in the second Test and are on the cusp of a famous away victory showcasing their constant improvement in the format. While the Kiwis need a miracle from hereon to prevent the Proteas from levelling the series, they did have a memorable moment on the field during South Africa’s second innings on February 28.
Will Young took an incredibly unbelievable catch near the boundary which arguably is the best in the recent past in the sport.
Will Young takes a sensational catch to get rid of Marco Jansen
This happened on Day 4 of the second Test. On the second delivery of the 79th over, Marco Jansen had timed a Colin de Grandhomme delivery with all his strength and apart from the timing, the connection was also good and at one point it seemed as if the ball would easily go the distance.
However, Will Young showcased brilliant athleticism by taking an incredible one-handed catch at deep midwicket along with showing a great presence of mind to ensure that he made no contact with the boundary by any means.

Coming back to the contest, South Africa declared their second innings at 354/9 riding on an unbeaten 136 from wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne to set up a mammoth target of 426 runs for the hosts. In reply, the Black Caps have already lost skipper Tom Latham, his opening partner Will Young and the key wickets of Henry Nicholls and Daryl Mitchell. As of now, they are in a spot of bother with the scorecard reading 94//4 at stumps on Day 4.
New Zealand still need 332 runs on the final day to win the series and have a well-set Devon Conway who is still going strong with 60 runs to his name.
