The franchises have started gearing up for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) auction set to take place on December 19. There is a lot of scouting that takes place before the auction gets underway where the teams find an appropriate player for them ahead of the upcoming season. They also shortlist a few cricketers which they want. In a bid to add another talent to their star-studded line-up, Mumbai Indians (MI) called up Odisha cricketer Pappu Roy for the trials on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old left-arm spinner hogged the limelight for his performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy during the 2018-19 season. He picked 14 wickets at an average of 18.42 and an economy rate of just 3.79 in the tournament. His numbers stand out even more as Odisha managed to win only two of their eight matches. He was also picked in the Board President’s XI and India C team after his impressive show.

Mumbai Indians to pick Pappu Roy

Pappu Roy informed Odisha TV about getting called up for the trial match by the Mumbai Indians on October 19. The trials were set to take place on Tuesday and one will hope that all has gone well for the youngster. More details are awaited over the same in the near future.

As far as Pappu Roy is concerned, he has continued his decent show with the ball in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy season as well. He was the second-highest wicket-taker for Odisha this season with seven scalps to his name in as many matches at an economy of 4.39 and average of close to 32. It will be interesting to see how he fares if he gets a chance in the IPL for any franchise.

In his short career so far, Roy has played two first-class, 17 List-A and seven T20s. He has picked 1, 27 and 12 wickets respectively and will be keen on continuously improving his bowling. If Mumbai Indians manage to secure his services, the left-arm spinner will learn a lot given the fact that their support staff is exceptional. Pappu Roy will surely be looking forward to playing for them and shine if the opportunity beckons.
