Steve O’Keefe had an excellent outing in India. He outplayed India in the first Test in Pune and was critical during the Ranchi draw. It was somewhat of a career boost for the left arm orthodox spinner. However, he has been shot down to earth by himself. O’Keefe and alcohol related incidents are not unknown.

Last year in August he was given a warning by the New South Wales police for inappropriate behavior after he drank too much. A similar incident occurred during a Cricket Australia award function as he under the influence of alcohol, O’Keefe made some highly offensive comments. David Warner the captain of the Hyderabad franchise was talking in a casual conversation in his hotel lobby when he touched the topic.

He said that it was not appropriate on Keefe’s part to make those statements but immediately supported his international colleague. He said that they all will support him back on the field as the left armer has been banned from the Matador Cup and has been fined $20,000.

Warner said as per the quotes on Sportstarlive, “I was in a similar kind of scenario. But, hopefully, Keefe will get all the support from to be back on the cricket field again. We will all give him the right kind of help Keefe and as team-mates will render him all support to help him.”

Warner also went on to state that Cricket Australia is pretty strict on that front and hardly tolerates such stuff. Stating that his teammate’s comments were extremely bad and he should not have done that. The captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad said, “Cricket Australia doesn’t tolerate these things. It is really strict in these issues. It is very, very bad. O’Keefe should not have done that.”

Steve O’Keefe will be kicking himself for doing this as his career was taking a flight. This incident will remain as a regret for him all his life.
