Owing to the uncertainties of the ongoing pandemic, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shifted the mega event from India to UAE and Oman. The qualifier round for the marquee event was staged to be played in Oman. However, now after hosting the initial part of the World Cup, the Oman Post in collaboration with Oman Cricket and under the patronage of his Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham bin Tarik Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, has issued a new stamp commemorating Oman hosting its first ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.
The stamp features a picture of a cricketer swinging his bat. It also includes the logos of the tournament and Oman cricket. The stamp sheet also features the images of the hosting ground of Oman Cricket Academy, alongside the country’s flag and also of all the participating nations. The Oman Post is expected to make an announcement on social media platforms once the stamp is available for order or purchase.
The qualifiers of the T20 World Cup 2021 were held at the Oman Cricket Academy’s Ground at Al Amerat. The venue has the capacity to welcome 4,000 people and enjoys the beautiful picturesque views of the Al Hajar Mountains. It has earlier hosted many One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) tournaments.
This is the best way for Oman to showcase itself as the world’s best-kept tourism secret: Oman Cricket chairman
Hosting a mega-event like that of the World Cup is a huge moment for any nation. The Oman Cricket chairman Pankaj Khimji had previously opened up on hosting the high-profile tournament. He had stated that co-hosting the World Cup will allow the nation to showcase itself to the world.
“We are now showcasing not (only) Oman cricket, we are showcasing Oman to the globe, world and if we go by what we expect, this could be the third-largest televised event in history after the football world cup and the Olympics that happened in Japan. This is the best way for Oman to showcase itself as the world’s best-kept tourism secret. People hardly know much about Oman and this would be our chance to kind of showcase Oman to the rest of the world,” Khimji had told as quoted by NDTV Sports.
