The five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have suffered seven successive defeats in the IPL 2022 and are at the last position in the points table. Currently, they are up against the challenge of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The former Indian cricketer turned commentator Nikhil Chopra shared his views on the form of MI in the ongoing season and pointed out their weak points.

Chopra thinks the team can not exclude Kieron Pollard from the Playing XI due to his track record for them for the last many years. He reckoned that youngster Dewald Brevis has showcased his fine talent in the initial matches and is a crucial contributor to the team. Chopra further added that it has been a one-off affair in the batting department for MI, and the other batters need to stitch partnerships with Suryakumar Yadav to post a big total on the board.

“They can’t drop Pollard for bringing Tim David due to his proven finishing capabilities and was also one of the retained players. Brevis has shown a glimpse of his talent and has shown his brilliance. But, one or two players are only performing for the team. They have to follow the template of Rajasthan to post a big score on the board. For this, they need another batter with Surya to do well, said Nikhil Chopra on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.

Chopra reckoned that MI does not have a quality bowling attack to defend the totals of around 160-170, and have to score 20-25 extra for the cushion of the bowlers. He thinks the team has only one spin-bowling option in form of Hrithik Shokeen, who is just one match old.  Chopra further added that MI needs to stick with the same set of players for a couple of matches, otherwise a discomfort arrives in the dressing room.

“You don’t have the bowling attack to defend 160 unless Bumrah has a good day with 3-4 wickets. Now they have only a single spinner in form of Hrithik Shokeen, who is quite young in terms of experience. If you keep changing the team in every match, there is chaos in the dressing room, Chopra added.
