As Anil Kumble was elected the Indian coach, history revisited the Indian team. There was a sense of Déjà vu amongst the cricketing fans in India. With Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman being a part of the Advisory committee and Rahul Dravid the coach of the India A and U19 team. Anil Kumble’s appointment as the head coach of the Indian team saw the return of the famous Fab Five into the cricketing fold with new roles to play.

Dear Fab Five,

You guys formed the core of the team and your contribution to Indian cricket in the last decade is priceless. And now that you have retired from your cricketing duties, it’s great to see you all come up with some or the other roles and work together for the betterment of Indian cricket for years to follow.

You guys gave wings to our imagination, enthralled connoisseurs world over, brought dignity to the sport we loved. Right from Kumble’s 10-wicket haul to Ganguly’s fearless captaincy, right from the Laxman-Dravid show in Kolkata to Sachin’s Sharjah storm and many more. The tans might fade but the memories will last forever.

The innumerable occasions when we broke into dance to celebrate an Indian victory as one of you pulled Team India out of troubled waters and set the roots for a victory. Each of your endowments were noteworthy and legendary in the respective departments. The way you relished playing together and produced significant moments as a team and the support you garnered from fans all over, it can be easily described as the golden era of Indian cricket.

Big players like MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh who as youngsters came into the team in your presence have sung praises all over of how you supported them in their cricketing endeavours and how you guys helped them take their game to the next level. This, in turn, has transgressed them to take up the same initiative for the future generation which is quite evident as the current crop of youngsters blossom and credit the current seniors for their success today.

Still remember the days in our college canteen when we thrived on Kumble to topple the opposition’s middle order, expecting Dravid to bat throughout the innings to build a foundation or instilling faith in the very very special Laxman to win games beyond our reach or witnessing Sachin smash the confidence out of the greatest bowlers for a toss or Ganguly make a difference with his aggressive captaincy.

Those moments were all remarkable holding their own significance. Now as we look up to you guys take responsibility in another way, we are quite excited to watch Team India progress under some able guidance and assistance. With a long Test season approaching, all eyes would be on the numero uno status which India lost in 2011. We have always had a fantastic record at home and this is going to be a challenge for the young team to live up to the perils and fitness demands of the long season.

At the end, I’d like to wish you all the best as the season progresses and hope that the changes you bring in works as a masterstroke and proves to be profitable in success of the Indian team, now as well as in the future.
