Team India has been climbing the ladder of success in the longest format by exuding their sheer flair. Even in the overseas conditions, they have marched the drum of their repertoire to dominate the proceedings. The former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt has thus opened up on the reasons behind India’s success on overseas tours.
India is currently considered as one of the best touring sides in Tests in the world alongside the Kane Williamson-led side that was crowned as the WTC champions. The re-birth process for India started from the South Africa tour in the year 2018. Though the team couldn’t win the Test series they displayed great character to avoid a whitewash and secured a thumping victory in Johannesburg in the third Test.
The Virat Kohli-led side then continued their winning momentum further in the coming years. They defeated Australia twice at their home and also are 2-1 ahead in the five-match Test series against England which was paused after the Covid outbreak in the Indian camp earlier this year.
India is now all set to take on the challenge against the Proteas where they are scheduled to play three Tests and as many ODIs. Considering the team’s success in overseas conditions lately, a lot of hopes are pinned on them to win their first Test series in South Africa. When asked about the reason behind India’s success Butt reckoned that the team has been preparing well to face the challenges.
Salman Butt reveals the reason behinds India’s success in overseas conditions
“India prepare for it. If you see, India’s ‘A’ teams go to England, Australia. Even now, they were on the tour of South Africa. I’ll give you an example. A high proportion of Mohammed Siraj’s First-class matches came outside India, where he took part in four-day games. Other countries aren’t doing that. They aren’t sending their ‘A’ teams for four-day cricket like India. Earlier, you used to see Australia ‘A’ coming to Pakistan, or even Sri Lanka ‘A’ or South Africa ‘A’ used to come here.
Now, the countries are moving away from long formats. Justifiably, the players are not prepared for that. They can’t develop the mindset for Test cricket,” Butt said on his YouTube channel.
