With the overseas players of different franchises of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 queuing up to leave for their respective countries in order to prepare for the World Cup, Delhi Capitals (DC) feel they are at an advantage. The DC made a complete overhaul of their side, including the name (formerly called Daredevils), in a quest to make their maiden final, and have played well in the middle part of the tournament. The young side led by Shreyas Iyer has won five of their last six games and need just one win to qualify for the playoffs.

DC do not have many players who will leave them in crunch phase

Iyer feels his team has an advantage in the business end of the tournament for the other sides are set to lose international players. Two overseas players in the DC – Colin Ingram and Chris Morris – are not in the WC fray for their home country South Africa and will continue playing in the entire season of this edition’s IPL.

The other South African speedster Kagiso Rabada, who is in excellent form this IPL, is there in the Proteas’ squad for the WC but Iyer said he had no idea whether he was leaving for national duty. With 23 wickets from 11 matches, Rabada is the highest wicket-taker in this IPL so far.

DC will play Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their next match in Delhi on Sunday and Iyer feels the absence of English cricketer Moeen Ali in the RCB will go to their favour. Ali is done with his IPL stint this year and has left for England for their upcoming series against Pakistan and the WC.

“On a wicket like this, it would be an advantage for us as Moeen Ali will not be there in Bangalore’s team and we will try to fully utilise it,” Iyer was quoted as saying to the reporters ahead of the RCB’s clash at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

Rajasthan Royals, who DC meet in their final league match on May 4, have also seen the exit of Jos Buttler and that will lessen Iyer’s concern even further.
