One of the reasons why the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) managed to win the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was Shane Watson’s rich vein of form. He even scored a masterful century in the final against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Quite expectantly, a lot was also expected of the experienced campaigner in this tournament as well.

Prior to IPL 2019, Watson was in incredible form in the fourth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). In the tournament, he notched 430 runs from 12 matches at an average of 143.8 and he was also named as the Player of the Tournament. He was a part of the Quetta Gladiators, captained by the Pakistan national captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed. Form was definitely not a concern for Watson.

Poor outings for the Watson

However, in the ongoing edition of the IPL, the Queenslander has been awfully out of form. In 10 matches, the 37-year-old has only been able to score 147 runs at an average of 14.70 and a strike-rate of 112.21. His top score of 44 came against the Shreyas Iyer-captained Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi and that was CSK’s second encounter of the T20 extravaganza.

In the next eight games, the experienced campaigner has been able to get into the double-digit mark only thrice. Until now, CSK have tried out three openers. They started with Ambati Rayudu, but pushed him down the order to number four in order to accommodate Faf du Plessis. Nevertheless, the management has persisted with Watson, despite his constant failures.

The Super Kings next contest is against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium and the team would be wanting for their gun batsman to get his form back. In the meantime, Twitter is definitely not pleased with how Watson has performed in the T20 tournament. The fans and supporters now want CSK to drop him for the rest of the games.

Here is how Twitter expressed its opinion
