Team India collapsed to 92 runs in the fourth ODI against New Zealand at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. None of their batsmen crossed the 20-run mark and were undone by some exceptional swing bowling from Trent Boult well assisted by Colin de Grandhomme. Meanwhile, Michael Vaughan was left perplexed with Rishabh Pant’s absence in the ODI squad and felt that he would have been a handful at the crisis situation for the Men in Blue.

But the selectors had opted to leave out Pant for this series with Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni already in the squad. They decided to keep the young wicketkeeper-batsman in the plans by including him in India A squad for the One-Day series against England Lions at home.

However, to extend the conversation, the former England cricketer Owais Shah responded to Vaughan’s tweet and singled out a reason for Pant’s absence in a unique way.

Owais’ interesting tweet

MS Dhoni is currently the best wicket-keeper for India ahead of the World Cup and very few will argue with this fact. 2018 was the worst year of his career which led to the calls of the veteran being dropped from the team as well. But come 2019, Dhoni has rejuvenated himself with the willow. In the four innings so far with the bat, he has amassed 241 runs with three half-centuries and has been dismissed only once.

His record speaks for itself and even Owais Shah felt the same as he termed Dhoni as the best wicketkeeper-batsman in the world in his response. Owais indirectly informed Vaughan that a player like Dhoni’s presence might be keeping Pant out of the Indian team as the veteran is set to play the World Cup.

“Probably because the best wicket-keeper batsman in the world is keeping him out of the side. #record #worldcuparoundthecorner,” Owais Shah’s reply read to Vaughan’s tweet.
