Pace Bowlers with Over 400 Test Wickets: Getting over 400 wickets in Test cricket is an incredible achievement for any pace bowler. Very few have achieved the coveted milestone in international cricket and have been able to ink their names deeper in the history books. It is incredibly tough to sustain the high level of play for a long time in order to pick those many wickets. Nonetheless 12 star bowlers have managed to achieve the feat and out of them 8 are pacers.

Glenn McGrath, the legendary Aussie has racked up 563 wickets in his 15 year long illustrious career. He doesn’t bowl at an express pace, but he can swing it both ways and can prove to be a nemesis even for the best of batters. McGrath remains the only pacer with over 550 wickets in test cricket. The other name is that of Courtney Walsh, the dreaded West Indian fast bowler is second next to Glenn McGrath with 519 wickets. He was an intimidating bowler who could run in and fire deliveries at express pace. Due to his height, he generated great bounce as well and that disrupted and disturbed the batsmen’s rhythm.

Kapil Dev, the 1983 WC winner finds his name in the list as well. The legendary all rounder has effected 434 scalps and is India’s highest wicket taking pace bowler ever in tests. Richard Hadlee features next in the list with 431 wickets in just 86 matches. The New Zealand pace spearhead is known for his incredible dexterity with the new ball and was one of the most difficult bowlers to face in his days.

Shaun Pollock the street smart South African bowler has managed to pick up 421 wickets with an impressive strike rate of 57. Wasim Akram one of the greatest swing bowlers ever is next in the list with 414 wickets. The left arm bowler is a nightmare for batsmen as he swung it both ways and also reversed the cherry once it gold old. Curtly Ambrose of West Indies follows Akram next with 405 scalps against his name. The fiery pacer was part of the West Indies team that dominated the cricketing world back in 1980’s. James Anderson of England finds himself in this elite league as he picked up his 400 wickets against New Zealand today. He with his swing bowling can give a hard time to even the finest of the batsmen and can be very difficult to get away especially in his home conditions.
