Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the 15-man squad for the upcoming three-match T20 International series against Windies. The selectors have given the chance to the youngsters who performed well in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL). The National Selection Committee headed by Inzamam-ul-Haq picked the players for the series after consulting with the head coach Mickey Arthur and skipper Sarfraz Ahmed. However, the three-match series commences on April 1 with all the match scheduled to be played in Karachi.
The National Stadium in Karachi recently hosted its first game in so many years which was the final of the PSL as the fans welcomed cricket with open hands. The upcoming series is also expected to be a sold out as PCB continues to revive international cricket in the country.
Who are new entrants?
As far as the squad for the series is concerned, Hussain Talat, Asif Ali and Shaheen Afridi have been rewarded for their impressive performances in the PSL. Usman Khan Shinwari has also made his way back into the side after he was injured last year post his sensational five-wicket haul against Sri Lanka in the ODI series. Rahat Ali, who played under the leadership of Sarfraz in the PSL, has also been included in the squad.
The likes of Imad Wasim and Rumman Raees are yet to recover from the respective injuries which they sustained while playing in the T20 league. They were not considered for the selection for the same reason. The most exciting selection though was of the 19-year-old Shaheen Afridi who impressed one and all while featuring for Lahore Qalandars in the PSL.
Even his captain Brendon McCullum spoke highly of him despite the team failed to do well. Shaheen also registered one of the best figures of the tournament when he just ripped apart the opposition with his bowling.
