Pakistan Cricket Board has announced on Sunday, June 20, that their women’s national team and ‘A’ teams will travel to West Indies for some limited-overs matches. The contingent will take a flight to Antigua from Lahore on June 23, 2021. The entire tour will be played in Antigua. The women’s team will play three T20Is and five ODIs, while the women’s A team will play in three T20Is and as many ODIs.

This will mark the third international tour of the women’s team in the past four months. Before this, they had traveled to South Africa for three matches each in the ODI and T20I series in Durban. After this, they further toured Zimbabwe, but that tour was cut short due to the flight restrictions.

Despite the pandemic, the PCB has tried to arrange tours for the women’s team, keeping in mind the ICC Women’s World Cup qualifier later this year. They have a good chance to qualify for the finals event which will be played in New Zealand next year, which will be followed by the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where a women’s T20 event has been added this year.

Pakistan to play the entire series in Antigua

As far as the rankings are concerned, Pakistan is ranked at the seventh position in the ICC Women’s Team rankings in ODIs and T20Is. On the other hand, West Indies is placed at the sixth position. Before this tour, the Women’s national team of Pakistan have been to the Caribbean islands for three ODI series, two T20I series, and two ICC Women’s T20 World Cups in 2010 and 2018.

The last time these two teams came eye to eye was in the early part of 2019. Pakistan had won the ODI series 2-1. That series was played in the UAE while the T20I series was played in Karachi and won by West Indies with a margin of 2-1.

PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan said, “We are glad to announce that our senior and ‘A’ women teams will be traveling to the West Indies for a competitive series in a year in which they have to feature in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers.”
