India won the second T20I against Windies in Lucknow by 71 runs to win the three-match T20I series 2-0 with one match to be played on Sunday at M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Rohit Sharma, the interim Indian skipper, came to the party and helped his team to the mammoth victory, scoring 111 runs from 61 deliveries with the help of eight boundaries and seven sixes.

He started cautiously but stepped on the gas as his innings progressed. The 31-year-old was severe on the spinners and didn’t shy away from taking the aerial route on a pitch, which didn’t have much to offer for the bowlers. After accomplishing the ton, he became the first batsman to notch four centuries in the format, surpassing New Zealand opening batsman Colin Munro.

Rohit surpasses Virat comfortably

He was also adjudged as the Player of the Match. In the meantime, he also surpassed Indian captain Virat Kohli as India’s leading run scorer in the T20I format. The Nagpur-born batter currently has 2203 runs in 86 matches at an average of 33.89 with 15 half-centuries as well. He was ten runs shy of Kohli’s tally of 2102 runs and he didn’t take much time in crossing Kohli.

Moreover, he also has a chance of becoming the all-time leading run-scorer in T20Is as he is only 68 runs away from Black Caps batter Martin Guptill, who has 2271 runs in 75 matches. Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tweeted for their opener and praised him.

The world’s richest cricket board took to the micro-blogging site and wrote, “Hitman @ImRo45 now becomes the leading run scorer in T20Is for #TeamIndia,”
