Pakistan failed to match up to the challenge thrown at them by England on the fourth day at Old Trafford, leading to a three-wicket defeat. The Joe Root-led side managed to hunt down 277 and take 1-0 lead in the three-Test series.
Hosts England was in danger to lose the match after losing five wickets for just 117. However, a sixth-wicket stand of 139 between Chris Woakes and Jos Buttler guided them to the triumph. Woakes remained unbeaten on 84 while Buttler scored as England turned the tide on Day 4 at Old Trafford.
After suffering a defeat in the first Test, the Azhar Ali-led Pakistan side will be eager to retaliate and deliver in the subsequent two Tests. Pakistan are slated to play two more Tests and three T20Is during the course of their England tour.
Pakistan will face England in the 2nd Test from 13 August
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, no fans have been allowed to attend the matches. Moreover, the players have been confined to a ‘bio-secure bubble’ to curb the risk of COVID-19 transmission. With the pandemic wreaking havoc in many parts across the globe, the possibility of witnessing a jam-packed crowd in international matches looks bleak at the moment.
However, it didn’t stop a British Pakistani fan to cheer for his team at Old Trafford. During the fourth day of the first Test, he was seen playing the saxophone on the platform at Old Trafford tram stop. His pictures started doing rounds on social media in no time. The supporter was roaming across the Old Trafford, playing ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’ as many fans lauded his dedication level.
After the four-wicket defeat in the first Test at Manchester, Pakistan will lock horns with England at Southampton in the remaining two Tests of the series. The second Test is slated to being from 13th August while the third and final one is set to start from 21st.
Following the traditional format, Pakistan will play three T20Is against England starting from 28th August. Like the Test series, the T20I series will also be played behind closed doors, with players maintaining the bio-secure bubble.
