Pakistan opening batsman Fakhar Zaman has become the star for his country after scoring a scintillating century in the final of ICC Champions Trophy against India. He has infused the much-needed aggression at the top of the order for Pakistan. His aggressive innings helped men in green post a formidable 338 on a big day.

Wishes poured in for Pakistan cricket team from every corner of the world and even Pakistan Navy was not behind. They were quick to congratulate the team and in particular their fellow soldier Fakhar Zaman.

“Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah congratulated Pakistan cricket team on the historic victory in Champions Trophy 2017,” reads a statement released by ISPR.

“Naval Chief also congratulated Pakistan cricket team captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and Fakhar Zaman, Man of the match in final, for their outstanding performance. Pakistan Navy is proud of Fakhar Zaman who remained a part of Pakistan Navy and PN cricket team for 7 years,” read the statement.

Pakistan were thumped by India in their first group game by a massive margin of 124 runs. They were heavily criticized by their own people and former players. Few even termed this as one of the worst team ever. But Pakistan held their heads high and came back strongly. They defeated teams like South Africa, Sri Lanka and England on their way to the final. They went on to beat India to win the coveted title which nobody would have imagined when the tournament started.

Sarfraz Ahmed, who was leading the side for the first time in an ICC event, was time and again giving credit to the team management and his players. But he led the side admirably well and also played a calm and match winning innings against Sri Lanka in a nervy chase.

Pakistan cricket badly needed this victory to boost up their chances of qualification for 2019 World Cup. Pakistan is certainly now a contender for the World event as it will be held in the same country.
