Pakistan is in its quest to rope in their star limited overs batsman in Fakhar Zaman into the longest version of the game. The decision is reasoned behind the Southpaw’s approach in his recent exploits for the national side at the highest level. He is in the fray to make his Test debut on the forthcoming tour to England in May 2018 as an opener who can blaze apart oppositions at the top.
The men in green have off late evolved as a strong limited overs side. Under the captaincy of Sarfraz Ahmed, they boast to be the winners of Champions Trophy held in England last year. In the recent past, they have acclaimed the top position in T20I rankings courtesy some youngsters, who are making a mark in World cricket.
Fakhar could be the Warner for Pakistan
The problems for the team has been their dismal run recently in the longest format. Their losses against a much weakened Sri Lankan team in UAE have propelled the management to think out of the box. In order to turn their fortunes before the upcoming tour, Pakistan has set up a training camp in Lahore for 25 players who will be in contention to tour England this summer.
To revamp their side, Mickey Arthur, and co. believes that the ability of a player like Fakhar Zaman can power them to success even in Test cricket. Zaman, who is yet to make his debut in Test cricket, also was among the players called up for the fitness camp. The team reckons his approach in limited overs can be drawn in comparison to David Warner, whose selection in Test cricket, had a huge impact on cricket in Australia.
Pakistan hasn’t been able to find replacements ever since the retirements of Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan. The stalwarts of their cricket have left a void in the Pakistani batting line up, which is still hard to fill. With many budding cricketers ready to make a mark for their side, Pakistan can hope to rely on them to turn the tide in their favor as they play three Test matches during tours of England and Ireland.
