Since the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is finding it hard to collect sufficient revenues, the board is planning to shift their ‘home series’ from the United Arab Emirates to Sri Lanka during their series against the West Indies, later this year.
NDTV reported a senior PCB official saying that the board has been unable to make any handsome profits from its ‘home series’ hosted in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah since 2009 mainly due to the high expenses involved in organizing these series in the United Aram Emirates, negligible gate money receipts and finding right sponsors.
The PCB official said that Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had always been supportive of allowing Pakistan to use their venues, he added, “They were receptive even when there was a chance we might host India in a short last January. But, the move didn’t materialize.”
Pakistan has been impressive at the UAE in Test matches with 3 wins and only 5 losses from 25 matches, but they have struggled in the One Day Internationals (ODIs). They have lost 38 ODI matches out of 62 matches and won just 22.
The expenses involved in hosting a series in the UAE is very high and the number of people in the stadium to watch the match was also too low which was also proves costly for PCB.
The board official mentioned, “There are options, main among them Sri Lanka and there is a consensus the series against the West Indies could be moved from UAE.”
Before the series against West Indies, Pakistan will visit England for a series comprising of 4 Tests, 5 ODIs, and one T20I.
