While the Pakistan national side is busy training in New Zealand to take on the Kiwi challenge starting this week, their Under-19 team is impressing cricket fans with their 2-0 victory over Australia U19. Pakistan Under-19s on Sunday beat Australia Under-19s by 49 runs in the third and final Youth One-day International (ODI), clinching the series 2-0 at the Albert Cricket Ground, Melbourne.

The final match consisted of several impressive individual performances but it was one particular catch from 18-year-old Saad Khan that stole the show in Melbourne. Australia was 228/6 when Khan took the one-handed stunner in the covers to dismiss Cameron Green.

Hassan Khan bowled a full-ish delivery and Green had hit the ball well enough to go over Saad and was in its aerial route but he took an almost superhuman catch as he jumped as high as he could. It would probably have grounded in no man’s land outside the circle if Saad hadn’t managed to pull off that brilliant effort but he was in the air, almost appearing like he was flying when he took the catch. Green was dismissed three short of a half-century.

In the same match, Pakistan’s newest young pace sensation Shaheen Shah Afridi impressed yet again as he returned with figures of 2/38 and was on a hat-trick. Apart from him, Suleman Shafqat was the pick of the bowlers with figures 3/53. Muhammad Zaid Alam scored 128 off 134 balls and Ali Zaryab Asif’s half-century helped Pakistan post a defendable total of 309.

R Hackney brought up a 109 off 110 balls in reply but it was not enough as the Pakistani bowlers dismissed all other batsmen without letting them make much of an impact. Eventually, Pakistan won the 3rd one-dayer by 49 runs, thus winning the series with much ease. Earlier the Men in Green had won the 1st ODI by 6 wickets while the 2nd ODI ended without a result.
