Haris Sohail scored his maiden Test century while Asad Shafiq became the first Test wicket of Marcus Labuschagne after scoring 80. The pair put on a 150-run partnership for the 5th wicket before Pakistan lost their remaining five wickets in the last session in search of quick runs. Australia ended the day scoring 30 runs in the 13 overs of the play before the stumps without losing a wicket.
