Pakistan vs Australia: Shahid Afridi lauds the team effort in the Test series victory

Pakistan thumped Australia in the second and final Test match in Abu Dhabi by 373 runs to seal the two-match Test series. Mohammad Abbas was the hero for them in both the matches and was deservedly awarded the Man of the Match and Man of the Series. It didn’t take long for them to bundle out the visitors on the fourth day and Shahid Afridi was ecstatic over the victory as he lauded Pakistan’s team effort.

Very few would’ve given them the chance after they were left reeling at 57/5 in the first innings after opting to bat first. But the duo of Sarfraz Ahmed and the debutant Fakhar Zaman stitched a 147-run stand to propel the team’s total of 282 runs which proved enough for the struggling Aussies. They could only muster 145 runs in their first effort and conceded a hefty lead of 137 runs.

Afridi’s special praise for Abbas

While the spin threat was looming large on the Australians in this series, Mohammad Abbas hogged all the limelight with 17 wickets in this series. He was absolutely special in the decider on a pitch where every other fast bowler struggled immensely. He backed up his five-wicket haul in the first innings with yet another stunning performance to return with the magical figures of 10/95 in the match.

This was also the best performance by a Pakistani fast bowler in the last 10 years and Shahid Afridi didn’t forget to hail him in his special praise for the 28-year-old. The former Pakistan cricketer who is currently in Sharjah playing in the ongoing Afghanistan Premier League (APL) had a keen eye on the proceedings in Abu Dhabi and was quick to express his elation on his official Twitter handle.

“Outstanding performance by team Pakistan! Abbas is a brilliant performer in any conditions. Very well led by Sarfraz, great debut by Fakhar. Hope this great run of form continues!” he tweeted.
