New Zealand didn’t have an auspicious time in the three-match T20I series against Pakistan by any means as they lost 3-0. Kane Williamson and Co were competitive, but the home team turned out to be a tough nut to crack. The Black Caps also became the second team after Aaron Finch’s Australia to get whitewashed by the World number 1 T20I team.
The visiting team is now scheduled to play a three-match One Day International series, which gets underway on Wednesday, November 7 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The second match will be played at the same venue on Friday, November 09, followed by the third encounter at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, November 11.
Quite a few new inclusions
In the meantime, the Kiwis have announced a 15-man squad for the 50-overs fixtures. Left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel, who made his international debut in the T20I series, has been roped in as a backup of leg-break bowler Todd Astle, who is suffering from a knee injury. The Maharashtra-born cricketer may be handed his maiden ODI cap in the first contest itself.
Albeit he picked up only one wicket, he finished with an economy of 7.50, which isn’t poor in T20 cricket by any stretch of the imagination. George Worker has been drafted in as a replacement of regular opener Martin Guptill. Pacer Lockie Ferguson was also included.
Meanwhile, a heel-injury ruled all-round cricketer Corey Anderson out of the 50-overs format. The three-match Test series starts on November 16. Meanwhile, New Zealand would be hoping to somehow turn their fortunes around and put their best foot forward in the ODI series.
Here is the squad
Kane Williamson (C), Todd Astle, Trent Boult, Colin de Grandhomme, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Colin Munro, Henry Nicholls, Ajaz Patel, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, BJ Watling, George Worker.
