Team India entered the second day’s play at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton with the overnight score of 19/0 in four overs. Many expected a huge lead from the Indian side but things didn’t go well for the visiting team as the comeback man Moeen Ali destroyed India’s hopes of building a 100-plus run lead. All India managed was of 27-run lead.

Both the openers Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul couldn’t stay at the crease for much time as they conceded their wickets to Stuart Broad. India lost both the openers for 50 runs. Stage was set for Pujara and Kohli to go for big runs. As expected the duo stitched a valuable 92-run lead before the Indian skipper got out to Sam Curran in the first slip.

Rahane was expected to build a partnership with Pujara but the former got out LBW wasting a review for the visitors. Later, Pant also queued to the pavilion giving Moeen Ali his first wicket of the game and series. At tea, India lost five key wickets for 181 runs and were hugely dependant on Pujara to level England’s score and take a lead.

Moeen Ali continued to pick wickets after the tea session as he bagged Pandya, Ashwin and Shami in the gap of two overs. India lost 8 of their wickets for 195 runs and were in trouble of conceding a good lead to England team. But, Pujara shifted gears and stitched valuable partnerships with Ishant and Bumrah to bring up his 15th Test ton.

Pujara’s knock of 132* will surely go down as a gritty one as he stitched nine different partnerships in the inning. Many cricketers and experts hailed the cricketer’s knock. One among them was Pakistan sports anchor Zainab Abbas. She took to Twitter and wrote, “With all the talk about Pujara’s overseas performance or lack of,this is a gritty knock. #INDvsENG”
