Veteran Pakistani pacer, Asmavia Iqbal, has called it quits from all forms of international cricket. Iqbal had served the Pakistani Women side for over a decade at the highest level of the game. Last year, she had finished as the leading wicket taker for the Women in Green during the ICC Women’s World Cup in England. She had bagged 8 wickets in the competition in which Pakistan Women failed to live up to the expectations.

Asmavia Iqbal announced her retirement from all forms on the game with a message on the social media site Twitter. She remarked that it has been a memorable journey for her sporting the jersey number 20 for almost 14 years. She thanked all her fans, fellow teammates, and the coaches for helping her in the wonderful journey.

“What a memorable journey it has been! It has been an absolute honour wearing the green shirt #20 and serving Pakistan as a cricketer. A hearfelt thankyou fo all my Fellow players, coaches, well wishers, fans and all others who have been part of this incredible journey so far,” Asmavia Iqbal wrote.

Asmavia Iqbal ending on a high note

Commenting on the illustrious career, Asmavia Iqbal had made her international debut back in 2005 againstt Sri Lanka. She became the first cricketer in the history of women’s cricket to claim a T20I hattrick. She achieved the feat against England in the year 2012 when she dismissed Sarah Taylor, Arran Brindle, and Danielle Wyatt. Asmavia has 70 ODI wickets to her name to go along with a tally of 44 T20I wickets.

It was surprising to see her sit out of the Pakistani squad that toured New Zealand last year in October. That has been the only cricketing assignment for the Pakistani Women since the World Cup. Asmavia is now looking forward to work in different capacities with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
