Pakistan batsman Younis Khan went on record to clear the air about his impending plans to retire from Test cricket. The prolific batsman, who finds himself 23 runs shy of entering the 10,000 runs league in Test matches, made it abundantly clear that the ongoing Test series against West Indies will be his last.

Along with captain Misbah-ul-Haq, Younis Khan had earlier announced that he would hang up his boots following the Windies Test tour. However, amidst statements which speculated on a probable extension of his career if the team needed it, Younis took to social media to set the records straight. He gave out his statements in a short video.

“There’s a lot being said about my retirement from Test cricket. The word is that I have decided to continue playing Test cricket. However, this remains untrue. I have chosen to retire with my own will, and have planned it after thinking about it deeply. I shall retire with honour,” Younis said.

With over 17,000 international runs under his belt, the 39-year-old remains one of Pakistan’s most decorated batsmen. The right-hander has 34 Test centuries to his name, with the highest score of 313. After 17 years in the circuit which saw Younis play 115 Tests, he has decided to call it a day from Test matches and with that his international career.

Younis further went on to add, “I will not go into the details of what I said & how was it presented.  I stand by my retirement plan.”

“Even if Younis Khan scores a hundred in each innings of every Test against West Indies, Inshallah Younis Khan will still retire,” the batsman stated.

He also requested his fans not to doubt his credibility and asked followers to support Pakistan in the ongoing Test series. An icing on the cake for Pakistan as well as Younis would be to clinch the Test series in the Caribbean.
