Arguably the greatest batter to have ever stepped onto the cricket field, AB de Villiers brought down curtains to his illustrious career on Friday (November 19). While the former South African captain had bid adieu to international cricket back in 2018, he continued to feature in several T20 leagues like the Indian Premier League and the Big Bash League.

However, his blitzes over the 22 yards won’t be seen anymore. With a tremendous era coming to an end, numerous members of the cricket fraternity took to social media and paid tribute to the cricket legend. Former Indian pacer Parvinder Awana also did the same but his intentions raised many questions.

Parvinder Awana’s tribute post for AB de Villiers leaves fans upset

Taking to Twitter, Awana shared a clip of him dismissing De Villiers via a clean bowled. It was an IPL match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kings XI Punjab (Punjab Kings). The Proteas talisman tried to send the ball to the fine leg region with a ramp shot.

However, he could connect the yorker-length delivery and his stumps were shattered. Sharing the clip of the dismissal, Awana wrote: “Thank you @ ABdeVilliers17f or your contribution to cricket.”

Although the caption suggests Awana intended to pay tribute to De Villiers, the choice of his clip didn’t go down with many fans and hence, the former right-arm pacer faced a lot of backlash.

Speaking of De Villiers, the 37-year-old made the major announcement with a heartfelt post on Twitter. “It has been an incredible journey, but I have decided to retire from all cricket,” wrote De Villiers while sharing one of his monochromatic pictures.

“Ever since the back yard matches with my older brothers, I have played the game with pure enjoyment and unbridled enthusiasm. Now, at the age of 37, that flame no longer burns so brightly,” he added.

From Virat Kohli, many prominent names in the cricket circuit paid tribute to the De Villiers. The Proteas legend’s wife also penned down an emotional note. While Awana might have tried to do the same, his intentions have been questioned.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterati reacted to Parvinder Awana’s post:
