23-year old Australian pacer Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the upcoming Quadrangular series featuring Australia ‘A’ later this year. The Australia ‘A’ assignment sees the Australians play host to the touring India ‘A’ team as well as the South Africa ‘A’ side.

The 23-year old was ruled out of action after sustaining an injury against England in the fall of 2015 in an ODI. Although having impressed the medical staff with his rehabilitation and recovery, Cummins has been ‘cautiously’ ruled out. It is said that the selectors and the Cricket Australia management are adopting a cautious approach with Cummins’ return to cricket. Courtesy of this, Cricket Australia has pushed the recovery by a few months, prolonging his international cricketing action.

Although Cummins had indeed recovered from his injury, it was clear that the Aussie selectors wanted to monitor his progress for a while. Rod Marsh, CA’s national selector, had mentioned that Cummins’s participation in the series would depend on the clearance from the medical staff.

“Pat is going really well with his rehabilitation but is unlikely be ready to play at full match intensity during the Australia A tour,” Marsh was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au, “After discussions with Pat and the medical staff, we have decided to wait an extra month and look for him to return for New South Wales in the Matador Cup.”

Cummins reportedly recovered from his injury in early February and has been raring to go ever since. He has also expressed his desire to bowl in excess of 90 mph, a speed everyone knows that he is indeed capable of clocking.

“It’s each little win, each little step being back in the gym for the first time, back running or having my first bowl trying to get to that next goal. But certainly the more breaks I’ve had the harder it’s gotten.”
