BCCI’s new junior selection committee comprising of five members has appointed Pavan Shah the skipper of the India U19 team for the upcoming Asia Cup. The tournament will commence on September 29 and will be played in Malaysia. Pavan has also been named the captain of the India A U19 side for the quadrangular series which will begin on September 12.

Pavan’s story has been quite inspirational. He got a maiden call-up to the junior national side in the recently concluded Sri Lanka tour and he pounced in on the opportunity. The youngster went on to smash an aggressive double hundred in the second four-day match against the home side. He scored 282 runs off just 332 balls and shattered records on his own and he hit as many as 33 fours and a six during his stay in the middle.

Aryan Juyal dropped

The selectors, however, have dropped the earlier captain Aryan Juyal from the team. He was the leader of the pack in the five-match series in the limited-overs leg of the tour. But he failed to lead from the front and could only score a solitary half-century.

On the other hand, Pavan impressed many with his technique and batted beautifully to back-up his exploits in the longer format. The captaincy though is a big responsibility and the youngster is looking forward to leading his team in both, the quadrangular series and the Asia Cup.

The selectors also picked the squad for both the tournaments. Apart from India A U19 team, India B U19, U19 sides of Afghanistan and Nepal will fight it for the ultimate glory in the quadrangular series. All the matches of the competition will be played in Lucknow.
