PCB Chairman Shahryar Khan threatens to boycott India: Reports: The relationship between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is only getting strained with the passing time. The PCB Chairman Shahryar Khan has reportedly threatened to boycott India in ICC as well as ACC events if BCCI doesn’t give confirmation about India’s participation in the bilateral series proposed to be played in the UAE in December. Few months ago, a major terrorist attack had taken place in Gurdaspur district of Punjab, near the Jammu Kashmir and Pakistan border after which even the slight possibilities of bilateral series between India and Pakistan has taken a back seat.
Earlier, India and Pakistan had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate a bilateral series in December. The PCB Chairman was quoted by ‘Express’ Newspaper saying that, “Nothing is final or decided as yet but if the Indian Board officially backs out of the series, then we have the option of boycotting all matches against them in ICC and ACC events as well.”
Shahryar Khan further added “I sent the letter on 28 August and I am still waiting for a reply. They (the BCCI) should tell us whether they want to play the series or not. Because if they say they don’t have government clearance and refuse to play the series, then we reserve the right to act against the Indian Board for not honoring an agreement at every level.”
“I am not saying we have decided to do this or we will do it but certainly if we don’t get to host our home series in December, then we have to consider appropriate action as well,” he said.
It is notable that after the 2008 Mumbai attacks in India, both the Asian giants mostly lock horns in ICC events. Since 2007, Indian and Pakistan have not faced each other in Test cricket.
