The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan has completely rubbished the claims of Misbah-ul-Haq being offered the position of match referee. Khan further stated that it is entirely up to Misbah to chose his career post his retirement. The outgoing skipper is currently playing his last cricket match of his career along with Younis Khan in West Indies.

The match is wonderfully poised as Pakistan has posted a target of 304 runs to win. The 42-year old has represented his side in as many as 255 international matches in all the format of the game. Overall, Misbah has scored more than 11000 runs in international cricket.

He led the team from the front and took the bulk of the scoring responsibility for his team. As a captain he backed the young talents in the team to come good for the team’s cause and was able to nurture quite a few of them. After his retirement what Pakistan will miss the most is his calm and composed presence in the middle.

It’s upto Misbah

“It is Misbah who will decide what kind of role he would like to seek after his retirement and if he wants the post of the ICC match-referee, the PCB could recommend his name but it is up to the ICC whether it accepts his name for the said post,” said the PCB chief.

The last time a Pakistani was elected into the ICC match-referee panel was Wasim Raja way back in 2006. Since then, there has been no one from Pakistan to represent them in the ICC match referee panel.

“When both Misbah and Younis would return from West Indies we will give them a proposal regarding work with the board and hopefully they will accept it,” added Shaharyar.

It was sports journalist, anchor, producer Geo News, Syed Yahya Hussain who had broken the news about the PCB’s plan on Twitter. “Chairman @TheRealPCB Sheharyar Khan has offered @captainmisbahpk to be the Match Referee in @ICC from Pakistan,” he had tweeted.
