The Pakistan Cricket Team scripted a fairytale in England when they lifted the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Nobody expected them to go beyond the group stages – not even their own fans, especially after the start they had to their campaign, losing by a huge margin against arch-rivals India in the tournament opener. However, they beat the same opponent in the finals by a similarly huge margin to lift their maiden Champions Trophy.

After more than a month to the win, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has received the winner’s prize money of 230 million rupees from the International Cricket Council (ICC). After their return to Pakistan with the trophy, numerous felicitations have been held already. From prize money to cars as prizes, they Men in Green received all the appreciation they deserved. It has been learnt that the board has conveyed to the team that out of the total prize money, 16 shares will be made for the players and one share will be singled out for the management.

The Pakistan team won USD 2, 200,000 and the ICC has sent them the full amount without deduction in taxes. Earlier, each player was awarded Rs. 10 million by the Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. 5 and 2.5 million each was awarded to the management and coaches. Inzamam-ul-Haq, the chief selector, was also given an amount of 10 million rupees.

Remarkable rise

Pakistan doesn’t haven’t played at home for nearly a decade now, and all their home matches have been hosted at UAE. They had narrowly managed to qualify for the Champions Trophy as they were eight on the ICC rankings then. But defying all odds, their young players like Fakhar Zaman, Hassan Ali, Mohammed Amir and others played excellent cricket. Ali was the highest wicket-taker of the tournament and was awarded the golden ball for the same.
