With the T20 World Cup on cards, the excitement for the mega event has already reached a crescendo. After every team announced their squads for the marquee event, the experts and on-lookers have been putting their thoughts forward on the same. The teams participating in the tournament are allowed to make changes to the announced squad till October 10.

However, the former Pakistan captain and wicketkeeper Rashid Latif is not in favor of changes been made in the side. Pakistan will kick start its World Cup campaign against India on October 24 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Thus, it remains to be seen so as to what changes does the PCB makes to their side ahead of the start of the tournament.

Latif asserted that if changes are made on the side it will set a wrong tradition. He also added that if tweaks are made then it would mean that the selection committee hasn’t done its job right.

Rashid Latif feels changes to the Pakistan squad will send a wrong message

“Changing two to three players at this moment will set a negative precedent. Whenever teams will be announced in the future, everyone will ask for changes because we will have set the wrong tradition. If the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) feels that changes are necessary then the first person they should remove is the Chief Selector [Mohammad Wasim]. Making changes to the squad means that the current selection committee has failed to do its job properly,” Rashid Latif said while speaking to Express-News.

After Pakistan announced their squad for the high-profile event, the selectors were placed under major scrutiny as many key names missed out on the squad. The former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar too had lashed out at chief selector Wasim.

However reacting to the speedster’s comments, the chief selector had asserted, “Shoaib [Akhtar] is a very good friend and we spend a lot of time together. Earlier, we used to do shows together but now we don’t interact in the same manner. Cricketers and analysts have their own point of view and I respect that but that doesn’t mean that they are right all the time,” Wasim said earlier
