India defeated Australia by eight wickets at MCG in utmost style to level the Border Gavaskar series. Since then, people can’t stop lauding the collective efforts of the team and India’s stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane brilliantly led his team and came up with a century in the first innings to display his master class. His century in the first innings and the way he finished things in the second innings guided him to the man of the match award.

In the same line, people have been talking to promote Rahane as a full-time captain of the Test side as he maintained his 100% record as Test skipper. In this reference, former cricketer Deep Dasgupta feels questions are only rising because people have an issue with Virat Kohli’s expressive attitude. On the other hand, Rahane likes to remain calm while leading the team.

“I am taking nothing away from him (Rahane), but it’s just one Test match. Other leaders in the team like R Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah also stepped up. Let’s hold on to our horses as Virat Kohli hasn’t done anything wrong either. It seems like people have a problem with the way he expresses himself, but that’s the way he is,” said Deep Dasgupta to India Today.

Dasgupta further highlighted that India clinched numerous victories under Kohli’s rule and stayed as no 1 Test side for long enough. Men in Blue gathered several victories in T20I matches also under Kohli’s guidance, and except for the horrible show in Adelaide, the team has been doing well under Delhi’s man.

Ajinkya Rahane used to lead the Mumbai side in great manner: Deep Dasgupta

“Kohli is the same captain under whom the Indian team won in Australia back in 2018-19. India was the No. 1 Test side for a very long time under his leadership. It’s good for Indian cricket that they have so many leaders, but it’s just one good win doesn’t. Even in Adelaide, the Indian team played well and was on top of Australia except for that one session where the team went through a batting debacle. In terms of batting, a captain can’t do much,” he added.

He also stated that he is happy that India has so many good leaders. Rahane has led the Mumbai side, and he is a great captain in his style.
