Leicestershire has been in poor form since the start of the County Championship season. It was thought that the bad run would end soon but it didn’t. The county side has failed to register a win this season so far. They have played 14 games out of which 9 have been losses and the other five are draws. It is disheartening for the fans as the team on paper looks good enough to win a game of cricket.

Leicestershire has also been unstable with their backroom staff as their head coach left the job at the start of the month and it all looks like a wreck for them. They have done well in limited overs cricket as they reached the quarterfinals of the Twenty20 Blast. In One-Day cricket, they finished 6th overall, winning three out of their eight fixtures.

However, the four-day games have been tough for them. Even their Chief Executive – Wasim Khan- is talking about the same. Wasim was extremely upset while talking to BBC Radio in Leicester.

Enough is enough says, Khan

Wasim Khan was furious about the performance the team has put in and said that the club needs “wholesale” changes to get out of this misery. He also spoke about how the league table is showing the reality and the effort of the players.

He said, “The table doesn’t lie. Enough is enough. This year just isn’t good enough. This club has been down and out for a long time now in four-day cricket. We need to make some wholesale changes in terms of how we operate, and the person we bring in.”

He totally discredited the One Day form as the four-day format is the “health check” according to the Chief Executive. “If you look back on the four-day season – which in many ways is your health check as a club – it has been riddled with disappointment,” Khan said.

Khan demanded some pride from the players in the performances as he wanted to see some fight in the last three games of the season. He also said that only having optimism is not enough as the same thing is being repeated from the last two or three years.

He said, “The message is loud and clear. It has been hugely disappointing and demoralizing and we need to bring some pride into performances at this club. You start every season with optimism and hope for and expect the best, but we have been saying that for two or three years and it hasn’t worked. Optimism just isn’t enough.”
