38-year old New Zealand cricketer Peter Fulton has come out of retirement to lead the Kiwi side in the Hong Kong Sixes at Kowloon Cricket Club. Fulton had earlier retired from First-class cricket after an impressive season which saw him score the fastest hundred in domestic cricket. Fulton smashed a hundred off 50 balls for Canterbury against Wellington in February.

The batsman is popularly known as ‘ two-metre Peter’ because of his 1.98 height. Fulton has played 23 Test matches and 49 ODIs apart from 12 T20Is, scoring over 2000 runs with three centuries in international cricket. The Kiwi player will lead a young team in the eight-team contest- Shanan Stewart, Roneel Hira, Brad Cachopa, Graeme Beghin, Elliott Herd and Steve Wilkins.

Eight-team contest

The Blackcaps will lock-horns with Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), Pakistan, Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the hosts Hong Kong. The tournament will be played over two days- 28 and 29 October. Explosive batsman Ronnie Hira has played for the Kiwis in 15 T20I games, while Canterbury legend Shanan Stewart has had four outings with New Zealand.

Graeme Beghin will play for Auckland Aces in the 2017/18 season in limited overs cricket while Elliott Herd was rewarded for being prolific with the ball. He picked up 67 wickets and top scored with 174 and therefore was named Auckland club cricketer of the year.

Live action of the Sixes

Sunset +Vine, ICC’s partner for all major events, will produce 22 live games for the Sixes as well as live action features, interviews and profiles across all media platforms. “We want to be innovative and forward-thinking in how we promote the game to our audiences and Sunset+Vine’s expertise will help us build our reach not just in Asia, but around the world,” said Cricket Hong Kong director Jonathan Cummings.

“The Sixes is very much being built for the digital age and Sunset+Vine’s work in delivering huge social engagement for the Caribbean Premier League and Pakistan Super League made them a very attractive partner. Being able to attract interest from a global production company such as Sunset+Vine to want to partner with us to grow our major events really shows how far we have come in a very short time.” he added.
